Your first visit

We look forward to welcoming you during your first visit to Dr Dunn. We hope the information below provides you with an understanding of what to expect and what to bring with you during your first appointment with Dr Dunn.

What to bring:

  • Patient registration form
  • Referral (GP, other medical specialist, physiotherapist or other)
  • Medicare, Private Health and / or DV card
  • Private Health Fund details

In addition, it is important to provide your Dr Dunn with any relevant medical history to ensure the optimal management of your pregnancy, fertility or gynaecological condition. Items that may be relevant include:

  • List of current medications
  • List of any allergies to pharmaceuticals or other
  • Prior X-ray, MRI or CT scans
  • Copies of pathology reports and ultrasound scans

What to Expect

During your first consultation, Dr Dunn will be asking for detailed information covering your medical, familial and work history. It is imperative Dr Dunn has a well rounded understanding of your entire situation to ensure optimal care.

Dr Dunn provides a calm and nurturing environment so patients feel comfortable and secure. Honesty is important as it provides all of the information needed to assess and properly treat you.

At this appointment, Dr Dunn may perform some physical examinations and take clinical images to complete your medical record to assist with future follow-ups.

Be comfortable and ask questions

Your first visit whether it be for fertility, obstetric and gynaecological reasons is an exciting time, and you are encouraged to ask questions. Dr Dunn strives to answer all questions in a conversational to ensure you are comfortable and well informed.

It is easy to forget all the questions you wish to discuss. Prepare a list to ensure nothing is forgotten.

Initial Tests

During your first consultation or soon after, you may be required to undertake additional tests.

Common tests include:

  • Blood tests to know your blood type (A. B. AB, or O; Rh positive or Rh negative)
    immunity to German measles (rubella), and haemoglobin levels

Dr Dunn will review results and discuss with you either prior to your next important if required or during your follow up appointment if no action is required.

Physical Examinations

Physical examinations can seem daunting. Dr Dunn ensures patients feel accommodated and supported during their appointments. Partners are encouraged to attend and can act as an additional support person.

Practicing mindfulness techniques such as relaxing and taking deep, slow breaths as well as discussing any concerns with Dr Dunn can help put you at ease.
